The IMFN Secretariat visiting the Mediterranean area

In July the International Model Forest Network Secretariat came to visit the Mediterranean Model Forest Network’s area. Mr Patrick Wylie (Senior Policy Analyst and Mediterranean Regional Lead - IMFN Secretariat with Natural Resources Canada’s Canadian Forest Service) spent two weeks visiting some of the Model Forests (MF) of our Network, traveling with the MMFN Secretary Toni Ventre in Italy and Greece.

Aim of the visit is to strengthen the relations between the International and Mediterranean networks, meeting with some key stakeholders, such as the Tuscany Regional Government, the Italian Ministry of Forests and Agriculture and FAO, while better understanding the priorities of MFs of the area, especially the ones that are on their way to be official recognized as part of the network (Valle dell’Aterno - Italy - and Western Macedonia - Greece -).

Women in Forestry International

 ‍

Thanks to an initiative that brings together women from Austria, Germany, Iceland, Poland, Slovenia, Ukraine, Women in Forestry International (WOFO), an umbrella organization established to promote the interests of women in the forest and wood sector internationally was born.

We are aware that forests are essential to sustain life on Earth, and it’s time to say that women are crucial for the sustainability of forests” said the Boards members, “to address the climate crisis and shift to real sustainable development, we must engage all human resources, knowledge and perspectives available, involving all people”.

The mission is to create a leading international organization that brings together women in forestry to make them stronger, more visible, and heard. Women in Forestry International will connect existing networks of women in forestry, to support the creation of new networks and initiatives, and to make them more influential and integrated at the national and international levels.

The first WOFO meeting will be in Krakow (Poland) next October and will be an occasion to get to know each other, to make a strategy for future cooperation and to learn more about Polish forestry.

To discover more about it visit the WOFO page on Facebook and Linkedin.
