From Morocco: Sustainable Management in the Intensive Cultivation El Hajjaj’s lineage

The cultivation methods used today in the El Hajjaj’s area in the Middle Atlas in Morocco aim to develop a significant turnover for the local populations, however the intensive cultivation of the apple tree causes significant damage to the ecosystems by directly affecting the aquifer and causing consequently a considerable drying up of the wetlands, streams, and lakes. For example: Dayet Aoua and Hachlaf lakes.
To overcome this problem, the Ifrane Model Forest (AFMI) association aimed at raising awareness among local actors, farmers, local authorities on the importance of shifting current cultivation methods towards sustainable agriculture to preserve natural resources for future generations.

The seminar "Our Forests, Our Future"

 ‍

On 11 October 2021 from 16:30 to 18:00, entitled "Our Forests, Our Future", which is part of the official programme of the 19th European Week of Regions and Cities.
The European Union, with the agreement of all Member States, has set concrete climate targets for 2050 as a priority, with intermediate milestones for 2030. This will only be achieved through a triple transition - green, digital and resilient. The policies that will define our future in the coming decades are the ones we are designing now, so it is essential that we all participate in shaping them. In this context, the seminar will aim to explore the role of our forests in achieving these goals and in achieving resilient recovery and economic growth that is both fair and socially inclusive.
