Provence Model Forest changes leadership!

Provence Model Forest changes leadership!

After nine years as president Philippe Duparchy steps down from Provence Model Forest, with Jean-Laurent Félizia succeeds him, bringing experience as a long-time supporter, mycologist, and Mediterranean biome specialist.

Provence Model Forest experienced its longest presidency under Philippe Duparchy (2016–2025). During his tenure, the network grew from 35 to 154 members, and the budget increased from €57,000 to €153,000. A standout year was 2023 - the association’s 10th anniversary - offering a chance to reflect on its many projects. “To find a common thread among our projects - our strength lies in continuity. Our projects don’t stop when funding ends, and ultimately, that has enabled our growth and credibility”, said Philippe Duparchy.

So then, the eternal question: how do you define a model forest?
A model forest is the realization of an awareness that the forest environment is evolving—something not always acknowledged by populations who have come to settle here from diverse origins. It’s important to share, in a neutral space for dialogue, what this forest represents, what people expect from it, and how they’re willing to contribute to its evolution”.

PACA President 01Jean-Laurent Félizia is no stranger to Provence Model Forest. He quickly became a sponsor of the association through his company Mouvements et Paysages, frequently lectured at events, participated in the Art and Design Competition (and won in the Sculpture category), and served on its Development and Administrative Council (representing the Découverte Sainte-Baume association). As Jean-Laurent affirms: “Forêt Modèle de Provence is a human story that connects us”.

With a desire for continuity and development, he brings a wealth of experience - from Rayol to Mucem - as a Mediterranean biome specialist, mycologist, and nurseryman. He will leverage his diverse expertise to further support the organization’s growth, which is backed by the SUD Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, the Var Department, various institutions, and an expanding network of patrons supporting its initiatives.

We will continue to develop our three main areas: supporting our sectors and protecting our environment, environmental education, and international cooperation—serving our industries and our region”.
