Palencia Model Forest launches contest to promote good practices in forest bioeconomy

The Palencia Model Forest candidate has launched a call for applications for the "Good Practices in Forest Bioeconomy" contest, inviting individuals and organizations to submit innovative and sustainable initiatives that promote rural employment, sustainable use of forest resources, and circular economy practices. The contest, organized by PEFC España in collaboration with the Palencia Model Forest, is open until June 15, 2025.
This initiative aims to collect and showcase replicable projects that contribute to the development of the forest bioeconomy in rural areas. Selected proposals will be featured in a Manual of Good Practices and will receive prominent visibility through interviews, publications, and news articles within the framework of the Palencia Model Forest candidate. Additionally, participants will have the chance to win a selection of PEFC-certified products, including Iberian cold cuts from Fuente La Virgen and honey from Muria, with the draw scheduled for September 15, 2025.
The Palencia Model Forest candidate, coordinated by the Diputación de Palencia and supported by Fundación CESEFOR, FAFCYLE, the University of Valladolid, and PEFC España, works across 91 municipalities between the Montaña Palentina and the Camino de Santiago. The project focuses on activating the territory through the promotion of municipal forest bioeconomy, forest management and certification, and engagement with local populations to sustainably utilize natural and cultural resources.
This contest represents an opportunity to highlight local initiatives that are already transforming the territory and to demonstrate that sustainable forest management is key to the future of rural areas.
