The Provence Model Forest is once again shining a spotlight on one of the most emblematic species of the Mediterranean landscape: the cork oak. On October 18–19, 2025, the association will host the Week-end du Chêne-Liège at the historic Domaine de Baudouvin in La Valette-du-Var, France.
Over two days, visitors will enjoy an immersive program combining knowledge, culture, and hands-on experiences. The event will feature:
The initiative highlights the vital role of cork oak forests, not only in supporting local economies but also in providing key ecosystem services, such as biodiversity conservation, fire resilience, and climate change mitigation.
By bringing together communities, artisans, scientists, and forest stakeholders, the Week-end du Chêne-Liège reinforces the Provence Model Forest’s mission to promote sustainable forest management while celebrating Mediterranean heritage and traditions.
The Mediterranean Model Forest Network warmly invites members, partners, and the public to take part in this vibrant event, which exemplifies how local initiatives can connect cultural identity, ecological stewardship, and sustainable rural development. Please note that organization of this event is one of the six projects selected within the MMFN Secretariat grants call for promotion and dissemination Events 2025.

In parallel, Provence Model Forest is also launching its 9th edition of the Quercus Suber Competition 2026, focusing on cork-oak innovation and design. This year’s theme emphasizes regional origin: submissions must use cork oak from the region as the primary material. The contest includes two categories — Design and Woodturning — and awards top prizes of €1,000, €500, and €250, plus a public prize of €300 for each category.
Selected works will be showcased during the “Journées du Liège” at Villa Noailles (April/May 2026) and possibly during the Design Parade exhibition throughout the summer. The deadline for entries is January 9, 2026 at midnight.
We encourage designers, craftspeople, amateurs, and professionals alike to submit their creative proposals and help elevate the profile of cork-oak craftsmanship in the Mediterranean region.
