It’s with great honour and pleasure that this year the two Christmas fir trees, which were placed in the atrium of the palace of the President of the Italian Republic and also in the presidential Castelporziano estate, were donated by the Montagne Fiorentine Model Forest thanks to the Municipality Union of Valdarno and Valdisieve. The trees come from the forests managed by the UCVV according to SFM principles and carry the “FMMF Il Legno” brand.
The "FMMF Il Legno" brand, owned by the UCVV but managed by the Montagne Fiorentine Model Forest was born in 2014 with the aim of promoting the use of local wood and the sustainable management of our forests and is of the few territorial brands recognized by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development.
The path that led to the definition and registration of the "FMMF Il Legno" trademark was also supported by both the FSC and PEFC certification schemes.
A virtuous supply chain that aims to create job opportunities that avoid the depopulation of rural areas towards the cities, with the consequent loss of inestimable cultural, landscape and economic value as well as the indispensable safeguarding of the territory.
This was the occasion to introduce the history and commitment of the Model Forest of the Florentine Mountains to the President of the Italian Republic and to give voice to the Model Forest Network values around the whole Europe.
