The MMFN at the 2nd Mediterranean Green Week in Brussels

The MMFN at the 2nd Mediterranean Green Week in Brussels

From 24 to 26 June 2025, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) hosted the 2nd Mediterranean Green Week in Brussels, bringing together policymakers, experts, youth leaders, and stakeholders from across the Euro-Mediterranean region. The event served as a platform to reaffirm a shared commitment to a just and inclusive green transition.

Abdelkrim Marzouk, President of the Ifrane Model Forest, participated on behalf of the Mediterranean Model Forest Network (MMFN), contributing the Network’s voice to a high-level regional dialogue on sustainability and climate action.

The three-day Mediterranean (UFM) event focused on fostering collaborative actions to advance climate neutrality and the green transition. This flagship initiative reinforces regional efforts toward a comprehensive green transition, enhanced regional cooperation, and low-carbon, resilient, and resource-efficient development - aligned with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C target. It also underscored commitments to biodiversity protection and ecosystem restoration.

The meeting aimed to strengthen collaborative dialogue among the 43 UFM member states, including civil society representatives. Additionally, it emphasized preventing and reversing biodiversity loss, ensuring ecosystem conservation and restoration, and advocating for gender-sensitive environmental and climate policies.

The second edition featured diverse sessions designed to facilitate knowledge exchange, share best practices, and discuss policy updates. During these discussions, Abdelkrim Marzouk presented the International Network of Forest Model (INFM) and the Mediterranean Forest Network Model (MFMN), highlighting their philosophy, grounded development approaches, and community-driven work toward sustainable development. It was also the occasion to share insights from the Ifrane Model, drawing biodiversity-focused projects as a case.
