The Secretariat of the Mediterranean Model Forest Network is renewing and relaunching its collaboration with FAO

Following the meeting held last december in FAO office in Rome, two collaborations with the FAO have been endorsed, following the recent change at the head of the Secretariat of our Network.

The first is with the Silva Mediterranea section, with which the work within the Collaborative Partnership for the Mediterranean Forest (CRPF) has been confirmed, in order to accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Forest Management and the protection of forest-based ecosystem services under climate change conditions in the Southern Mediterranean region, namely in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey. In this context, our Network will once again play a leading role during the preparation and implementation of the Mediterranean Forest Week: the biannual event that involves the major bodies committed in the sustainable development of the Mediterranean forests.

The second confirmation comes from the Forest and Landscape Restoration Mechanism (FLRM) offices, whose team is working to help countries to restore degraded landscapes by identifying and implementing practices that restore a balance of the ecological, social and economic benefits of forests and trees within a broader pattern of land uses. In particular, our Network will collaborate in the implementation of the IKI project, funded by the German International Climate Initiative and dealing with the Paris Agreement implementation. Some Model Forest will host study visits, in order to explain to a public audience the forest restoration actions developed in the territories.
