ONEForest GA in Tartu

ONEForest GA in Tartu

Last week we were in Tartu, Estonia, for the last General Assembly (GA) of the ONEForest project. The project is funded within the H2020 program of the European Commission and involves the Secretariat together with three Model Forest of the Network: Montagne Fiorentine, Provence and Istria.

In Tartu the project partnership has discussed the way forward through the last year of the project while performing some interesting workshops related to the stakeholder perception analysis and the Decision Support System developed within the project.

As usual also a field visit was organized to visit the forests managed by the Estonian University of Life Sciences, near the eastern border of the country. It was the occasion to explore some experiments on the resilience of plantations to climate change (variation in humidity of the soil and air) and to see different management options for pine stands, as alternatives to the classic clear cut.

Before leaving could not miss visiting the Kings Pine, one of the oldest trees of the area that counts more than 400 years.
