Quercus Suber Contest 2024

The Provence Model Forest launched the annual call for woodturners and designers who are passionate about expressing their talent and creativity through this noble material: the cork. The Quercus Suber Competition, which began at the end of 2016, is now at the 2024 edition, and it's an opportunity for amateurs and professionals alike to shine.

This unique competition highlights the innovative use of cork oak, typical of the southern region. It aims to enhance this natural material through the creation of art and design pieces. Year by year the competition has become an important showcase for emerging and established talent. 

 

Categories of the Quercus Suber Competition 2024

 

The 2024 competition, which has expanded over the years, is now divided into two categories:

  • Turning: focused in highlights expertise and precision, in partnership with the Escoulen woodturning school;
  • Design: to celebrate innovation and modernity in the use of cork oak, in collaboration with Villa Noailles.

The prizes for the winners in each category are as follows:

For the 1st in each category: €1,000
For the 2nd in each category: €500
For the 3rd in each category: €250

The Public Prize, which will be awarded during the event at the Villa Noailles, will be worth €300 for each category. In the event of a tie, the prize will be halved, whatever the category (jury prize and public prize).

 

Participation and selection

Participation in the competition is open to all. Candidates must submit their entries via the official competition website. Projects will be selected on the basis of quality, originality and environmental impact. It is important to provide a detailed description of the project together with visuals. The deadline for submission is midnight on 31 December 2023.

The Exhibitions

The will be exhibited :

  • during the Journées du Liège 2024 at the Villa Noailles on 4 and 5 May;
  • extended exhibition at the Villa Noailles until 12 May;
  • participants in the Design category will be present at the Design Parade from 27 June to 1 September at the Galerie l'Annexe.
