8th Mediterranean Forest Week - Save the date

Please reserve your calendar for the next edition of the Mediterranean Forest Week (MFW) that will be held in Barcelona (Spain) from 4 to 8 November 2024, focusing on the restoration of forest ecosystems in the Mediterranean region.


During the week also the MedForum will take place, gathering all the Model Forests of the Mediterranean to present their achievements and discuss the way forward through the next year in the Network.  
 
The MFW serves as a platform for cooperation among researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders, fostering dialogue on the challenges faced by Mediterranean forests.

The monumental trees of the Valle dell’Aterno

On December 20th 2023 the Valle dell’Aterno Model Forest had its annual event to celebrate the association results and achievements and present the ongoing and upcoming projects. It was a participating gathering where associates and stakeholders had the occasion to meet and discuss topics involving the management and care of their territory.

 

Among the projects presented, one especially caught the interest from the attendants, the idea to start a monumental trees census inside the Model Forest area.

Extra time to participate at Quercus Suber 2024

 ‍

The Provence Model Forest launched the annual call for woodturners and designers who are passionate about expressing their talent and creativity through this noble material: the cork. The Quercus Suber Competition, which began at the end of 2016, is now at the 2024 edition, and it's an opportunity for amateurs and professionals alike to shine.

This unique competition highlights the innovative use of cork oak, typical of the southern region. It aims to enhance this natural material through the creation of art and design pieces. Year by year the competition has become an important showcase for emerging and established talent.

There are few more days to participate, the deadline for submission was postponed to 15th January 2024!

Management strategies to improve the resilience of Mediterranean forests

 ‍

Climate change coupled with profound socioeconomic changes are jeopardising the conservation of Mediterranean forests. Management strategies are urgently needed to enhance forest resilience

CIHEAM Zaragoza and CREAF are organizing a course to provide a thorough understanding of the threats, opportunities, and challenges for Mediterranean forests in a context of global change, enabling participants to become familiar with the implementation of an operational framework to assess forest resilience.

The Advanced Course will take place in Zaragoza (Spain) from 15 to 20 April 2024.
